National
Volunteer Week
3rd - 10th September
Last year, Hamilton Citizens Advice
Bureau gave advice on over 9,362 different cases and this number is rising every
day. The CAB makes no charge for this service, and anyone is entitled to visit
for help with their problems. This can only be achieved, though, with the help
of a dedicated team of volunteers.
"Being
a volunteer has given me a lot of satisfaction but I feel I have gained
much more than I have given"

You don't need any special knowledge
to help out at the CAB. Whatever your skills, your donation of time and expertise
will greatly help the local community. We don't only need advisers to talk to
the public and sort out their problems, the CAB is also looking for people to
assist with office administration, IT, fundraising, publicity, training, recruiting
and supporting the other volunteers.
So what's in it for you? Spending
time working at the CAB helps to develop your skills (especailly communication)
and gives excellent experience in an office environment. It allows you to meet
with other people in your local community, creating friendships which can long
outlast your CAB service. Most of all, though, you are providing a great service
to your local community and ensure that the CAB can continue the work which
has made it the UK's biggest free confidential advice network.
The CAB is always happy to hear from
people wishing to volunteer. There are no obligations, and the manager, Gill
May, will be happy to talk with you about what options are available to you.
If you would like to volunteer, e-mail
the CAB, phone (01698 283477) or just drop in. Every person helps, and whatever
you can offer to the CAB, will help to make life better for others in the Hamilton
area.
